Headaches

Headaches are common in our fast-paced, pressure-filled world. Additionally, if your neck and/or back are out of alignment, this can affect nerves, muscles, and even blood flow to your head. Too often, we turn to over-the-counter medications to relieve our discomfort. Unfortunately, these only mask the underlying sources of pain.

Treatment

The treatment for a headache depends, of course, on what has presumably caused it. Most people know from experience that emotional stress can cause headaches. Sometimes muscle tension in the back of the neck can irritate nerves in the head, causing a headache. If your headache is severe or persists for more than a few days, it is important to seek professional attention right away. Most common headaches are treated with painkillers, but painkillers do not get to the cause of the problem, they only address the symptoms.

Chiropractic Care Can Help

Because headaches can be caused by problems in the spine, specifically the neck, chiropractic care has provided significant relief to headache and migraine sufferers. Chiropractic care realigns the vertebrae, removing stress from nerves and providing relief from pain. A study of 6,000 people who suffered from recurring headaches for two to twenty-five years showed that spine injury was the most significant factor in the cause of the headache and should be suspected in every nonspecific case of headache.

Studies have also shown chiropractic care resulted in a reduction of 90% of migraine episodes with the length of each migraine reduced by 38%. In addition, medication use dropped 94% and other symptoms associated with migraine such as nausea, vomiting, photophobia (light and sound sensitivity) were reduced.

Treatment Goals

Chiropractic care realigns the vertebrae and removes stress from nerves. Ice, heat, electrical stimulation, traction or spinal decompression therapy may be utilized to restore proper movement to your spinal column, permitting greater energy, information and nutrients to flow over nerves and tissues and throughout your body.

Additionally, Physical Therapy provides benefits utilizing a range of treatment options including massage, exercises for flexibility, strength, stability and restoration of range of motion. Our goal is to return you to normal activity as quickly as possible and to get more health back into your life. We know that being healthy is more than just the absence of pain – true health includes having the ability to do what you need and want to do!
